January 28th, 2013 | By admin in Modern Furniture Designers | No Comments »

Recently, I have decided to renovate and refurbish my room as it was too encumbered and cramped with unnecessary things! I’ve been always thinking that nothing can improve the design of my personal space even good renovation because I’m such kind of person who gathers everything that seems useful (even if it’s not)! But suddenly one day having waken up early in the morning I’ve felt that something makes pressure upon me! It was an atmosphere and interior which was awful! I have thrown away all junk (it was my old book case, table, chair, bed)! The new epoch has begun for my room! It was wonderfully renovated! Perfect wallpapers, new floor! I’ve understood that I like this spacious place and don’t want any kind of furniture except a bed and an office desk! So, I surfed through internet and found this splendid design of space-saving furniture: home office desk – storage idea! It is multifunctional work station with useful space-saving storage lofted above! Just look how amazing it is!

The keyboard slots back under the desktop surface and the chair in turn slides under the desk. Overhead, the shelves are non-obtrusive and can stylishly place books and even décor elements!

So it is an excellent structure and I’m very happy with it!

October 18th, 2012 | By admin in Modern Furniture Designers | No Comments »

I think, this bed project doesn’t require too many words! This is the dream of any child and even an adult! Floating Pirate Ship was designed and built by Steve Kuhl – a Minneapolis design-and-build expert. His work has gain popularity all around the world! As we can see the shape of the vessel resemble the crow’s nest equipped with steering-wheel, rope bridge and wooden turret! The construction features curved wooden ribs supporting plywood plank which is covered with plaster and epoxy. These peculiarities give more authentic look and make the bed stable! Very unusual is the way the child can climb and go down the bed: special knotted climbing rope is dropped down from the lofted play area to a closet below and then secret spiral slide helps to continue the way down to the first floor!

So, make your children happy by building thematic bed in their kids’ room as it is attractive not only for them but for you as well!

What do you see: a bookcase or a bed? It’s not obligatory to have rich fantasy in order to understand this magic in the bedroom because to give freedom to your imagination will be enough! The mechanism is simple enough but the capacity of utility it gives you is enormous and invaluable! Look, the bookcase transforms into a comfortable and good for health sleep bed! Two sections of one mattress are cut out very accurately in order to let them get right adhesion when lowered down on the floor. When the mattress stands upright it forms a bookcase in a two tone color scheme! What I personally like in this project is the simplicity, creativity and beauty! Moreover this variant of bed is perfect for tight interiors!

Let’s continue our fascinating journey across the list of the most whimsical beds! Today I’d like to show you the creation called “Bed that grows with you”. Forget about habitual beds and liven up your imagination! Modern beds are more than inspiring; some of them are true masterpieces, funny and playful as this one for example!

Whilst I pay attention to the functionality something is prompting me that this bed is able to rank honourably among the most creative beds of all the times! The unusual design of the bed was created by Joel Hesselgren and he has given the name to it – “one size fits all”! And the name of the bed completely fits its essence because the design allows the bed to grow with you. The core element of the bed is the frame upon which the bed itself floats a few inches of the ground. The white corners of the frame play the role of the end tables! Also you can start with “single” bed. When you need it to be more spacious you can double it up. The bed can be divided into two single beds! For this reason and in my point of view it is reasonably the bed had won the first prize at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2007. Did you like it?

Stitching Concrete stool by Florian Schmid

September 2nd, 2011 | By admin in Furniture, Modern Furniture Designers | No Comments »

A lot of designers try to come up with original ideas that are both functional and good-looking. The final product seems simple, but the process is not as easy as it you might think.

For example, let’s take a look at the Stitching Concrete stool. It was designed by Florian Schmid using the new material Concrete Canvas and nothing more. The process consists of bringing your object to its final shape which isn’t always an easy task, and then you just have water the material and within 24 hours it hardens out. The designer had a daring project and the vision to combine the softness of cloth with the stability of concrete. The most difficult part was to get into the material and create something new and unique.

This stool has a lot of advantages, for example it is waterproof, fireproof, resistant against UV and especially durable. Although it may seem a little rough around the edges it has patterns, origami and stitching which make it feel more comfortable.

The Stitching Concrete stools are a very original project. They are versatile as they can be used both indoor and outdoor. Although it has a simple design, this stool can be very cheerful in the right environment.

Florian Schmid is an industrial designer, working and living in Munich, Germany. Currently graduate at the university of applied sciences in Munich, I also was working as intern for Raw-Edges, based in London, and Schlagheck Design, in Munich.
