June 27th, 2010 | By admin in Furniture | 1 Comment »

Many of us like to come home after difficult working day and fall down into cozy soft armchair in front of the TV-set. So how should the favorite armchair look? It should be comfortable, beautiful, qualitative, expensive? Perhaps, everybody has his own preferences.

All rules regarding furniture has already changed.

The wood furniture is now luxury and rarity but plastic and textile are quite popular now. However many respectful people prefer only classic. High backs, wide armrests and carved legs of armchairs are estimated in high society. Upholstery of armchair is not less important. It is desirable that it is leather, chamois or nubuk. But it is also possible to choose quite practice and qualitative textile variants. Such armchair is possible to place in bedroom, living room, cabinet or fireplace room. In any case it will be not just the simple element of furniture but proud of owner and decoration of the placement.

Though it is possible to decorate your dwelling different ways. In the case if interior of room is light and consistent in minimalism style the big oak armchair will not supplement it. The textile armchair will blend better with such placement.

That also can be modern beanbags, shapeless funny but very comfortable and practical. It is possible to experiment freely with color which will supplement the interior or decorate it with bright colors.

It is convenient when armchair is not only beautiful but also functional. For example, there are very accurate armchairs-beds which allow economizing space and being always ready for coming guests.

There are armchair-massagers, more modern and expensive, equipped with many control buttons which allow its owner to get massage and relax and choose a comfortable position, raise the shelf for legs. Some such armchairs have the built-in bar.

The armchair producers did not forget about children variants of such furniture. Children rooms can be decorated with round soft armchairs looking like a ball or flower. There are also armchairs-pouffes upholstered with soft textile with cartoon heroes. On such armchairs the pockets for children books and small toys are often sewed.

There are very progressive models of armchairs which only ultrafashionable and bold people purchase for their rooms. But such element of furniture will emphasize the personality of apartment owner.

Armchairs will never leave our apartments because it will be very uncomfortable without them. It can change and soon will not look like its forefathers but it will always keep its initial function.

Clocks as an element of interior

June 20th, 2010 | By admin in Accessories, interior | No Comments »

Clocks have already become the essential part of our lives long time ago. They are functional and decorative at the same time and manage wonderfully with the role of important adornment in the interior. As the watches on the hand can say many things about the person, so the clocks in interior can say many things about the house.

The fist mechanical clocks looked like towers with clocks in miniature and appeared in the best European houses in XVI century where they became the family value. Nowadays these “grandfather’s” clocks are called floor interior. Best of them are made manually. Of course they have a pendulum and many of them can boast of showcases with glass doors where it is possible to keep something refined. Such clocks are made of valuable sorts of wood: oak, walnut, mahogany, cherry-tree or beech. Mechanical clocks are appropriate in the houses and apartments with interiors borrowed from palaces, castles and estates of past times.

Another couple of respectable representatives of clock world are office and fireplace clocks. The fireplace clocks are usually placed on the mantelpiece therefore it should correspond with the décor of the chimney. Now the fireplace clocks are made in the famous jewelry houses like Faberge.

The cabinet clocks can hang on the wall and usually have no fanciful richly decorated body. For the serious placement the strict performance with minimum of décor with traditional pendulum and beautiful solid sticking are more suitable. But it is possible to allow yourself some elegant gloss on the table – complicated carving and a little of gilding on the background of wood of noble sorts while the common design is laconic. The office clocks have a lot of useful for business people functions: illumination of face, time in different cities of the world, calendar for month, hygrometer.

An interesting technique is to make clock’s mechanism open. Such clocks are called “skeletal” and their mechanism is either devoid of body or enclosed in transparent body of plexiglas or rock crystal that the work of complicated mechanism can be seen.

Today the clocks can get all conceivable and inconceivable forms: pictures, collages, plates, and stylizations of things of everyday life of past and present, networks, colorful glass plates – everything where it is possible to fix hands and hide the small clock mechanism. It is important to make the right choice and purchase the best clocks for your home to keep the hand on the pulse of life always.

June 13th, 2010 | By admin in Furniture, interior | No Comments »

It seems that today it is not any difficulty to buy a wardrobe. The wardrobe should be comfortable, functional, beautiful and have the proper design to blend with the interior harmonically.

The first thing with which it is necessary to determine is its size. The size is chosen against the amount of clothes and its kind (winter fur and sheepskin coats or summer dresses and suits). The height, length and depth of the wardrobe should be optimal and do not spoil the common design of the placement. The matter of fact is that the wardrobe is very voluminous and noticeable thing. So being too big it can destroy the harmonious in the placement, and too small will not fulfill its function – keeping clothes because it will not hold all necessary things.

In the most cases for making wardrobes the natural wood and particle board are used. However the modern producers offer the wide choice of stylish and practical wardrobes of metal, plastic and glass. Though of course if you have a possibility to purchase the wardrobe made of almug decorated with carving or incrustation it will become not just an adornment of interior of the room but a real delight. Today the most materials of which the wardrobes are made, distinguish with firmness, reliability, durability and good esthetic qualities. Moreover, they are ecologically clean and harmless for the organism.

Choosing the wardrobe it is necessary to aspire that the material of which it is made organically blends with common stylistic of the placement. For example, for the interior made in minimalism or hi-tech styles, the wardrobes made of metal or plastic are most suitable. The furniture sustained in classical style is associated exceptionally with elegant and expensive products of natural wood. And for country style it is possible to choose the exotic wardrobe of rattan. The refined wardrobes in baroque style are very popular.

The wardrobes can have various constructions. In the most cases they can have upper shelves, niches, columns and also the various amount of folds. The wardrobes can be not only straight but also angle.

It is not difficult to get lost in such variety of products. Therefore if you experience hesitations and difficulties you can ask the designers for professional help. However you should check the quality of the ready product yourself: open and close the doors, check the integrity of shelves and cases, listen the sound of hinges, examine the accessories. We can bet on that no one man could not see the lacy beauty in the moth-eaten things and the female intuition of author made a hint… And now we can enjoy the look of uncommon lamps MothEaten Light from ThreadCountLab.

Looking at this light it is impossible even to think about the moth and spoilt thing. Lace and butterflies are the only association. However the author explains her creation that this way she tried to unite her love to the nature and to the beautiful things; everything what the nature creates is unique and the person can only draw the inspiration in it taking the beauty of nature phenomenon as a base. Therefore the butterflies and moths flying to the light – all these serve as inspiration for Eleanor-Jayne Browne.

“Marrakesh” style – Mediterranean fairy tale

June 6th, 2010 | By admin in interior | No Comments »

If you want to change the habitual furnish turning out in the atmosphere of overseas exotic, heady aroma and dense colors of mystery fairy tale, try to design your interior in “Marrakesh” style.  The country house, apartment or only one room decorated effectively this way will become the place of soul comfort and coziness relaxing and recreating.

Owing to the versatility of the Moroccan culture the designing of such interior can become the fascinating game where the improvisation is limited only with your own inner feelings and some fierce features.

“Marrakesh” style was formed by mixing the ancient African, Arabian and other national motives with arbitrary fantasies of Europeans who lived on the Mediterranean sea coast of Morocco. Therefore both light refined stylization and literal reproduction of furniture of traditional Moroccan house will be appropriate here.

As for the color gamut, it is possible to use the wide palette of bright but natural colors. Traditional tints of red and terra-cotta (because of red-reddish tint of wattle and daub buildings predominant in Marrakesh city), lilac, and ochre, emerald, ultramarine – we boldly mix all these colors adding light sand or white in desired proportions. But it is possible to choose more monochrome color gamut strengthening the accent on the refined elements of furniture.

In creating the “image” of placement textile, wood, incrusted elements of furniture, artistic carving, coining, color mosaic, various wickerwork of natural materials, elements of refined smithery and of course the picturesque hand-made carpets and comfortable usually low soft furniture with many bolsters and pillows take part.

Choosing textile for decoration, design of windows and canopies can give a real pleasure. Here the combinations and alternations of dense ornaments with one-color texture are welcome.

The important moment is the design of the ceiling. There are two main ways here: painted one-colored surface (smooth or relief) with elements of wood, wickerwork or complicated refined painting “webbed” of national ornaments.

The finishing of walls and ceiling can be made with traditional technologies or using the modern methods allowing to imitate them.

But such modern “falsification” is just impossible with the furniture and other elements of interior. The presence of several ancient properties with touch of time and traditions is obligate!

The ancient frames, trunks, dishes, hookahs, lampshades, embroideries, doors and window shutters made of carved wood – all these details should tell you and your guests about refined handicraft of skilful good workmen.

However the Moroccan interior supposes the usage of many niches of different sizes and forms. Applying this method allows the possibility of minimal using of expensive rarity furniture for keeping things – it is possible to manage with thought-out and expressive décor.

And of course the arched aperture! Exactly in such movement they will not look trite, artificial and awkwardly. The arched apertures can be just painted or decorated with the elements of incrustation and painting as the ceiling.

Brightness, originality, warmness and mystery of “Marrakesh” style will give the atmosphere of relax and even for some time will bring you to the world of wonderful colors and patterns so loved and glorified by Matisse.

“Explosion Cabinet” from Opulent Items

June 2nd, 2010 | By admin in Furniture, Modern Furniture Designers | No Comments »

Opulent Items company projected and produced an uncommon cupboard which looks like it was blown up or sawed up to many small pieces.

To be more exact, this is no cupboard; – it is rather a cabinet and several small shapeless shelves which make together a cupboard which seems to go through fire and water, go through thick to thin.

Venous element of the furniture is called “Explosion Cabinet” and it is hand-made of high-quality maple. All six shelves-cupboards can be placed on the wall to your heart’s content. So the cabinet can stand both “broken” and just “cracked”.

By the way, the explosion cabinet is not just visualization of author’s fantasies yet, this is a real product which can be ordered on the site of the company-producer Opulent Items for $7500.  Of course, if you are ready to spend this money and you will have an idea where to place this device and how to use all its small shelves-cupboards.
